Disservice to boxing – Frampton hits out at Eddie Hearn

Carl Frampton has hit out at Matchroom for staging Amir Khan’s return to Britain on the same night as his WBO interim featherweight title fight with Nonito Donaire.

The former world champions both fight on big TV bills tomorrow night, going head to head in a Sky versus BT rating battle, and Frampton has bemoaned the occurrence.

‘The Jackal’ claims there is no winner in such a scenario and points out the biggest losers are true boxing fans.

Considering Frampton had announced his mouthwatering clash with future Hall of Fame fighter Donaire first, he has pointed the blame the way of Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn for running Khan’s comeback fight with Phil Lo Greco on the same night – however, it should be noted that Frank Warren initially announced the fight date as April 7th.

“If I sat and thought about it it would probably annoy me. No one’s winning here,” said Frampton

“There’s going to be boxing fans watching our show [on BT Sport and BoxNation] and other fans watching the Sky show. But it’s going to be split whatever. You could have more eyes watching our sport, and that’s what brings people to our sport and that’s what attracts people to it when they see big events,” he noted before reiterating his dissatisfaction with the clash.

“To have two big events on the same night does a disservice to our sport. I know people get one up on each other all the time, but boxing is the loser in this instance,” Frampton lamented.

“If you want to talk about boxing shows, this is the boxing show to be watching on the night. Khan will have a lot of Big Brother, whatever, Celebrity Jungle, people watching, but real boxing fans – if I was sitting at home I know which fight I’d be watching, and it wouldn’t be that one.”
