The Mayweather-McGregor New York Press Conference was a complete disaster

The Mayweather-McGregor World Tour rolled into New York last night for what was an utterly bizarre press conference at the Barclays Centre.

An event widely decried as a disaster, the fighters arrived two hours late to a muted and impatient crowd who were forced to endure extremely poor sound quality in the Brooklyn venue.

Perhaps the most pertinent thing to come from the night was the announcement that tickets for the August 26th clash at the T-Mobile Arena will go on sale on July 24th.

McGregor came in topless, wearing a fur coat he would claim was Polar Bear hide – a declaration which drew ripples of disapproval from the largely pro-McGregor crowd. Mayweather, in a callback to his antics in Toronto, entered draped in the Irish tricolour.

Following the opening staredown, the Dubliner took to the mic first, rapping Notorious B.I.G lyrics before ridiculing the financial problems of another rapper, 50 Cent, and presenting Mayweather with Jay-Z’s latest album, ‘4:44,’ as an example of a self-made and sustained success.

The Irishman would then crassly address the controversy surrounding his ‘Dance for me, boy’ remarks to Mayweather on Tuesday and Wednesday, which some argued were racist. Indeed the manner in which he responded will more than likely lead to more controversy.

When Mayweather took to the mic he described the still-topless McGregor as a ‘striper’ and showered the Crumlin light middleweight in $1 bills, as well as continuing his new-found use of the word ‘eejit.’

Following an order from the five-weight boxing champ, a scuffle broke out including Team McGregor coach Owen Roddy and members of the Money Team, all the while Mayweather skipped up and down the stage incessantly screaming ‘yeah.’

The pair then went head-to-head for a second time to thankfully conclude the farcical evening.

The world tour ends tonight at the Wembley Arena in London.
