Dickinson retires following jaw-breaking loss to Tommy McCarthy

Former British cruiserweight champion and outright Lonsdale belt holder Jon-Lewis Dickinson has retired at the age of 30.

The big North Eastener’s decision comes following a broken jaw, the second of his career, against Belfast’s Tommy McCarthy in May.

The Prizefighter winner went into the bout in Glasgow, a British title eliminator, looking to begin back on the road towards titles, with a World title clash against Tony Bellew being the eventual goal.

However, he was widely outpointed and knocked down by the Irishman in the sixth round.

Afterwards Dickinson was complimentary of the Mac Attack and admitted that “I got beat by the better man. Tommy McCarthy is a very good fighter and I wish him all the luck in the future”

While still relatively young and definitely still well capable of mixing it on the British domestic scene, Dickinson has decided against re-entering the ring.

A fulfilled and content fighter, Dickinson cited his prior achievements, his jaw, and his unwillingness to step back down to small-hall shows as the main factors behind his decision.

Dickinson steps away from the game with a final record of 17(5)-5(3) and we wish him all the best in the future.
