Derry duo secure new Florida fight date

St Joseph’s boxers Connor Coyle [4(1)-0] and John Cooley [2(0)-0] have had a new Florida fight date confirmed.

The Derry duo had been due to box on a card topped by Jeff Lacy next month, but saw this event cancelled. The Foylesider’s didn’t have long to wait for a new date however and will both now box on June 10th in St Petersburg, Florida.

It will be a second successive Sunshine State scrap for the Jim McLoughlin-trained pair who both featured on a St Patrick’s Day card at the A La Carte Pavilion.

In that fight last month, light middleweight Coyle would drop and dominate Daruma Almenarez over four. The Commonwealth Games bronze medalist will make the step up to six rounds in six weeks time.

On the same card, super bantamweight Cooley would be dropped himself by Emilio Rivera, but would recover well to claim a points win.

Opponents for both will be announced soon.
