REPORT: Jaime Munguia v Dennis Hogan World Title DEAL DONE

Dennis Hogan‘s challenge of WBO light middleweight champ Jaime Munguia [32(26)-0] has been reportedly agreed and a deal has been signed.

ESPN’s Dan Rafael has tonight revealed that a deal was agreed yesterday and that the fight will take place on Saturday April 13th in Monterrey, Mexico, citing Golden Boy president Eric Gomez.

Brisbane-based Kildare fighter Hogan [28(7)-1(0)] has been chasing a shot at the title for well over a year now, with a tilt being mooted back in 2017.

With Hogan ranked highly after his win over Japanese star Yuki Nonaka, he looked to be placed well to force a vacant title shot versus Liam Smith if Miguel Cotto defended the belt for a final time in his farewell fight with Sadam Ali.

Cotto, of course, lost to Ali in December 2017 who then looked to defend versus mandatory Smith before the Liverpudlian pulled out of their April 2018 clash following an allergic reaction and Munguia stepped in at late notice to claim the title.

The Mexican would fulfil mandatory obligations against Smith before wins over voluntaries Brandon Cook and Takeshi Inoue.

Meanwhile Hogan would beat Jimmy Kelly to rise to #1 in the WBO rankings and was eventually designated mandatory in the lead-up to his dangerous tick-over versus Jamie Weetch.

After beating Inoue last month a Monterrey fight date was mooted but this was dismissed by Hogan’s team.

With negotiations seemingly ongoing, the WBO today reiterated a March 3rd deadline, with the threat of purse bids looming

However, it has now emerged that the fight will indeed take place in Mexico, live on the DAZN streaming platform.

No exact venue has been reported.

Interestingly, Hogan’s promoter, Paul Keegan yesterday tweeted advocating a world title fight in Queensland and the Dubliner had suggested that local government support could enable them to defeat Golden Boy in a purse bid situation and bring the fight to either the Gold Coast or Brisbane.
