Dennis Hogan set for career-high pay day for Mexican Munguia mission

A well-deserved career-high pay day has tempted Dennis Hogan [28(7)-1(0)-1] and his team to go into the lion’s den in search of world title glory.

It was confirmed last night that the Brisbane-based Kildare fighter will travel to Mexico to take on WBO light middleweight champ Jaime Munguia [32(26)-0].

The fight will take place on Saturday April 13th in Monterrey, Mexico at the 18,000-seater Arena Monterrey, live on the DAZN streaming platform.

Mandatory challenger and having looked to be on the verge of a shot for over a year now, travelling to Mexico does not look to be a wholly desirable outcome for Hogan.

When Monterrey was initially put forward a few weeks ago it was dismissed by Hogan’s team who would suggest there was a degree of uncertainty from Team Munguia who, up until now, had been looking to build the youngster in America..

Hogan’s DDP Promotions and Munguia’s Golden Boy and Zanfer backers have been in talks for the past month, with a purse bid deadline set for next week.

The Canelo Alvarez v Danny Jacobs undercard in Las Vegas in May or even a purse bid stand-off where DDP would attempt to bring the champion to Queensland were both suggested but it will instead be Mexico and Hogan will be well-paid for his journey.

The Courier Mail in Australia are reporting that ‘The Hurricane’ will receive a career-high purse for the fight and they quote a mortgage-busting figure of A$500,000 or just over €300,000.

Fight boss Paul Keegan explained that they were disappointed not to bring the world title fight Down Under but was consoled by having extracted a “career best payday” from Golden Boy and have ensured that there will be three neutral judges and a neutral referee in Monterrey in six weeks’ time.
