Dennis Hogan ready to go “berserk” as WBO mess rumbles on

Dennis Hogan claims he will let his ring persona take over if the WBO continue to fail to do the ‘right thing’.

‘The Hurricane’ was on the wrong end of a controversial decision after a Monterrey-hosted WBO light middleweight world title fight just over two weeks ago.

While the Kildare man was angered and upset by what has been widely labeled a ‘robbery’, the positive mental attitude he works at maintaining ensures he feels there could be a silver lining on the horizon.

While his promoters DDP are adamant he shouldn’t have to be taking positives from defeat to Jaime Munguia in Mexico, the Brisbane-based boxer has been keen to try and look on the bright side.

The 34-year-old believes his performance against the champion has proved to any doubters that he is world level, saw his name travel around the world, and attracted attention and even offers from some big name promoters.

Hogan also holds out hope that the WBO will either order a rematch or put him forward for a vacant title shot.

It’s all deliberately positive from the Kilcullen man, but he does warn that if he doesn’t get some form of justice after a controversial defeat – which promoter Paul Keegan claims could cost him up to $5 million – he will ‘go berserk’.

“The good thing about it is I have gotten myself into a great mental space. I do all I can and whatever is out of my control is out of my control. I believe in karma and good things will happen. I believe there could be a silver lining to all this,” the positive Hogan explained.

“Maybe we can do a deal with an American promoter and I will be the A-side going into fights. I told Paul and everyone I will never lose a boxing fight. I will win every single fight I go into. I still believe I won that fight and I think bigger things will happen. I am taking joy from that fact and that’s all I can do now.”

“The fact is I have this belief he will come back around for me. I knew I beat the champion I just didn’t have the belt and that lined up future step. That is the only disappointment, but I still believe good things will come from it and that true hard work and dedication I’ll get reward.”

While reward may come via an American promotional deal or in the form of another big fight, a rematch with Munguia which was already in doubt due to his pending move to middleweight now looks even less likely after the WBO revealed the results of their re-scoring of the fight.

While five independent judges ruled the bout a majority draw, the criteria of this enquiry handily allowed the WBO to claim it justified the initial result.

With this in mind, Hogan is ready to explode should the WBO continue to fail to give him his due.

“It is a little embarrassing for me because I don’t want to go on crying about it,” he admitted

“But there is another part of me that is ready to berserk if needs be. If they completely by pass me and it all goes off there is another little mad man the one you see in the ring that is ready to go and do what I need to do.”

“They have to do the right thing.”
