Dennis Hogan ready to fight Jaime Munguia on GGG-Canelo undercard

Dennis Hogan has told WBO champion Jaime Munguia he is ready to fight as early as September 15th and will give him a notable opponent on the undercard of the massive Genady Golovkin v Canelo Alvarez undercard.

The giant light middleweight WBO title holder is odds on to appear on an undercard that will include Cork’s Gary O’Sullivan – potentially against former world champion David Lemieux – and the Kildare fighter wants in.

‘The Hurricane’ has been waiting patiently for his shot and can be considered unlucky not to have challenged for the strap now in possession of the Mexican already.

Indeed having beaten two top 10 ranked WBO fighters in his last two fights, Hogan is now the top-ranked fighter at 154lbs with the organisation and will get his shot sooner rather than later.

Having successfully defended his title against Liam Smith just last month, the Golden Boy and Zanfer-promoted Mexican is allowed a voluntary defence and can pick any of the top 15 to defend against in Las Vegas.

Team Hogan were initially hopeful of promoting a clash between the pair in Australia, providing Munguia came through his mandatory, but are now ready to take the fight even at short notice.

“We have expressed our interest in that fight yesterday if they are keen I’ll be talking to Golden Boy,” DDP Promotion’s  Paul Keegan told Irish-Boxing.com.

“Dennis would be ready, six weeks is short but he is in training already.”

DDP are confident their man has what it takes to beat the fighter with 25 knockouts from 30 wins and know recording a world title win on the same card of the biggest fight of the year would be massive, hence their willingness.

The relatively new and quickly successful promotional outfit also believe the show’s promoters would benefit from having another Irish fighter on the T-Mobile Arena-hosted fight night.

“Spike is on there already so to have two Irish fighters would be huge and for Dennis to fight for a world title on the GGG-Canelo card would be a life changing experience,” added Keegan.
