Declan Geraghty badly wants rematch with “clown” Carroll

Jono Carroll is more ‘clown’ that clairvoyant according to bitter rival Declan Geraghty.

When speaking to Irish-Boxing.com last month, Carroll [14(1)-0] warned that fear would make his old dance partner pull out of their proposed November 18th rematch, and even went as far as to predict ‘Pretty Boy’ would cite a hand injury as the reason behind his withdrawal.

As it turns out, injury has forced Geraghty [15(4)-2(1)] out of the eagerly anticipated rematch and, although the pair won’t be trading punches this Saturday, they have been exchanging verbal blows over the last few days.

Geraghty has taken real exception to Carroll’s suggestions he was apprehensive about the return and suggests his fellow Dub used insider knowledge to try and make himself look the more confident and assured of the two via the media.

“Listen, that clown knew I was out of the fight when he did that interview with you last week,” Geraghty told Irish-Boxing.com.

“He knew I had to pull out of the fight and he does an interview saying he thinks I might pull out. I was already out of the fight and he knew it.”

Carroll also questioned his fellow MTK southpaw’s desire to share the ring with him again and indicated that the ‘Frampton Reborn’ card might be the last time you see the pair side by side on a poster – even if the fight was called off.

However, a repeat of the Irish Fight of the Year for 2014 is a must for Geraghty. The two-weight Irish Elite champion is determined to settle the score and it seems his desire to tame King Kong has fueled over the last few days.

The 27 year old outlined that “to say I’m sick is a understatement.”

“I’ve been waiting this fight for a very long time. I hope it can happen next year I believe it needs to happen.”

“It’s the most talked about domestic fight in Ireland and even with being such a big card on November 18th, it was the most talked about fight on that bill. It needs to happen,” he added before detailing the circumstances surrounding the injury.

“I went over to London to fight just over a month ago and, after that the fight was called off, that’s when I done my hand in.”

“For the last month it being badly swollen and I’ve been in serious pain with it. We had to pull out of the fight, but for sure I want to get the fight on next year. I believe I can win and win in style.”
