1986: Damien Denny defeated Singapore welterweight Mohamed Mukhlis on points to secure a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. Denny would be outpointed in the semi finals by Englishman Darren Dyer.

1961: 1956 Olympic silver medalist Fred Tiedt outpointed Belfast’s Peter Sharp over twelve rounds to win the Irish welterweight title at Tolka Park in Dublin. The win would be the highlight of the Dubliner’s pro career which ended at 12(3)-7(4)-2.
