2008: The history-maker Jim Rock stopped Jonjo Finnegan in the seventh round at the National Stadium to win the Irish light heavyweight title. The belt was the Dubliner’s unprecedented fourth, having already won tiles at light middleweight, middleweight, and super middleweight.

2008: On the same card in Dublin, Andy Murray outpointed Galway’s Peter McDonagh to claim the Irish lightweight title. The Cavan man won on a 100:94 scoreline

2013: Eamonn O’Kane defeated Dubliner Anto Fitzgerald at the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk to win the Irish middleweight title. Despite a points deduction in the eight round for a low blow, the Derry man emerged victorious 97:94 in an exciting fight.

1946: Dublin’s John Ingle knocked out Johhny Ward of Roscommon in the sixth round at Dalymount Park to defend his Irish lightweight title.

1946: On the same show, Dubliner Joe Boy Collins outpointed Belfast’s Tommy Madine over fifteen rounds to defend his Irish bantamweight title.

1933: One of the hottest prospects in the World at the time, Jack Doyle, was disqualified in the second round of his British heavyweight title fight with champion Jack Petersen. The Cobh boxer came into the fight as a 19 year old with a record of 10(10)-0 with all his wins coming inside two rounds, however imperfect preparations and a hungry opponent led him to choose to be disqualified for repeated low blows. ‘The Gorgeous Gael’ would later move to America, star in Hollywood movies, become a recording artist, and have a string of high-profile lovers.

2006: Billy Corcoran, elder brother of Gary, was knocked out in the fourth round of his vacant British super featherweight title clash with Carl Johanneson at the York Hall.
