David Lemieux planning to ‘steal the show’ versus Spike O’Sullivan

Trumping Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez won’t be easy, but that is just what David Lemieux plans to do with victory in a ‘fight for the fans’ on Saturday September 15th.

The former IBF middleweight world champion finally put pen to paper and agreed a bout with Spike O’Sullivan this week and is not only confident of victory but believes he can achieve it in such a manner that he will steal the show.

Considering the seek and destroy style of both protagonists in the chief support clash, fireworks are expected but any ‘steal the show’ statements remain bold considering the card is topped by the biggest fight of 2018.

However, that is exactly what the Canadian plans to do and it has been reported that the Quebec puncher, who badly missed weight for his last fight, is already in supreme shape ahead of September 15th

The 29-year-old, whose most recent defeats have been inflicted by the gloves of WBO champ Billy Joe Saunders and GGG in world title fights, seems aware the potential is there for an all-action affair and like most predicts, at the very least, a fan-friendly fight.

“I’m looking forward to fighting Spike O’Sullivan next. I have some unfinished business at 160,” Lemieux [39(33)-4(2)] said.

“Spike is an action fighter, like me. He’s a tough cookie and comes to fight. This is a fight for the fans. Come September 15th, I want to steal the show.”

O’Sullivan-Lemieux is one of the chief support bouts alongside a WBO light middleweight title defence from Jaime Mungia versus Brandon Cook.

The fighter who holds the belt Kildare’s Dennis Hogan has firmly in his sights is also keen to impress.

The Mexican, who has broken onto the scene with victories over Sadam Ali and Liam Smith this year, puts his brown belt on the line against another Canadian in Cook and is keen to impress in front of what is predicted to be hoards of his native countrymen.

“I’m very motivated to be in such an important card,” Munguia said.

“It will be the most important boxing event of the year. For me it is an honor to be on this card supporting Canelo Alvarez, who is also Mexican, on a date [Mexican Independence Day weekend] that is so special for Mexico, for me and for all of the people.”

“We will do our best to please the public. I promise to not disappoint.”

If the giant light middleweight comes through unscathed he looks set to be ordered to defend against Hogan before the year is out. An eye-catching performance live on HBO on a card that will garner world attention can only make the clash with the DDP-Promoted, Australian-based fighter all the bigger.
