Date and venue set for Maughan-Upton Irish title clash

A date and venue has been agreed upon for the Irish light middleweight title showdown between Terry Maughan and Pauly Upton.

The pair will come to blows in Northampton on Saturday April 23rd for the belt last held by Dee Walsh.

Nottingham-born Maughan [10(0)-5(5)-1] will be challenging for the belt for a second time having lost to Walsh via second round knockout in November 2014.

Belfast’s Upton [11(1)-0] will be challenging for the first title of his professional career and is sure to bring a massive travelling support from throughout Britain and Ireland.

The bout will be the second Irish title fight of the month, with Darren Cruise and JJ McDonagh contesting the super middleweight title on April 9th in Crawley.

Both of these match-ups were suggested by this very site last year, and it is certainly encouraging to see the belt being fought for regularly
