Date for IBF lightweight title clash set

Richard Commey [24(22)-0] and Robert Easter Jr [17(14)-0] will face off for the vacant IBF lightweight title on September 9th in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Ghanaian Commey was mandatory challenger to Cuban former champ Rances Barthelemy, who has since vacated, and the Sauerland-promoted fighter will finally get to fight for the belt against rising American star Easter Jr at the Santander Arena.

Easter Jr, 25, is advised by Al Haymon and hails from Ohio.

The bout will, hopefully, be of great interest to Stephen Ormond. The 33 year old Dubliner takes on unbeaten Alejandro Luna on August 5th, also in Pennsylvania, in an IBF lightweight title eliminator live on ESPN.

While Ormond’s clash is not an IBF final eliminator, the Clondalkin man is likely to get a title chance, should he win versus Luna. ‘The Rock’ was previously promised a fight by Commey should he win the belt, while Ormond is also advised by Al Haymon and has stated that he agreed to the eliminator against Luna on the promise that he would get a World title fight afterwards.
