Darragh Foley to make quick-fire return to the ring NEXT WEEK

Darragh Foley [15(8)-3(0)-1] will make an impromptu return to the ring NEXT WEEKEND.

The Blanchardstown light welterweight has revealed that he will fight in Sydney on Friday February 8th at the Hordern Pavilion.

Foley was outpointed by English slickster Akeem Ennis-Brown last month in London but is refusing to dwell on the defeat and will be back in the ring just eight weeks after the IBF European title defeat.

The Australia-based 30-year-old explained how “I couldn’t let that sickening taste of defeat sit in my mouth any longer so, on the first Sydney card of the year, I go about righting my wrongs.”

Foley will fight Indonesian Wellem Reyk [19(5)-19(11)-4] in a six-round contest.

Last year saw Foley score a major win over Steven Wilcox to bring together the WBA Oceania and WBA-NABA belts together and move up to #5 with the body but it would be frustration afterwards. In what was his first bout on this side of the world, ‘Super’ Foley was held to a technical draw by Chris Jenkins in Glasgow after a clash of heads. Foley would then step in to replace Jenkins versus Ennis-Brown.

While he has lost his world ranking, the Dublin southpaw remains part of a fantastic-looking domestic scene and there are potential grudge matches there for him versus his MTK stablemates Anto Upton, Phil Sutcliffe Jr, and Tyrone McKenna.

First though, it’s the challenge of Reyk and getting back to winning ways.
