Danny Roman aiming to put pressure on TJ Doheny

Danny Roman [26(10)-2(0)-1] has promised to pile the pressure on Ireland’s TJ Doheny [21(15)-0] and believes their eagerly anticipated unification clash could descend into a show-stealing war.

Having watched the IBF super bantamweight world champion outbox and eventually stop Japanese voluntary Ryohei Takahashi from ringside at Madison Square Garden in January, the WBA strap holder believes a clash of styles might gel into something special when the pair put their respective titles on the line in Inglewood come April 26th.

Having studied the Portlaoise southpaw, who conversely believes Roman’s aggressive approach may suit him, ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’ believes he will have to take the fight to the southpaw.

“TJ Doheny is a great boxer and he uses the ring. From what I saw in his last fight, I am going to have to take the fight to him and I am going to have to be on top of him,” Roman said at yesterday’s press conference before agreeing that a war could break out between two fighters who have been more than respectful to each other.

“Yes, if it comes down to it, why not? Let’s give the people what they want to see. That’s what they want to see a great fight.”

On the top of the bill ,Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Juan Francisco Estrada will meet in a 2018 Fight of the Year contender rematch for the Thai’s WBC super flyweight titles in a clash that promises fireworks.

However, LA native Roman believes his clash with ‘The Power’ will be fight of the night on the DAZN and Sky Sports show.

The 28-year-old noted how “we are fighting under a great main event but I feel we will steal the show. We are both hungry, we have been asking for this so you can’t miss it.”

Both fighters have been keen to discuss the fact they avoided more routine defences in a bid to give the fans a potentially entertaining clash of champions and give themselves a chance to take a step toward undisputed status.

Roman was eager to push the champion versus champion element of the bout and described how “I’m excited to be back home and excited that TJ’s here. This is a fight you want to see.”

“The best against the best, champion against champion. I’ve been asking for this fight since I won the world title, and finally it’s here.”

“This is the most important fight of my career after winning the world title. This is a unification bout and the best fighting the best. I am not just fighting anybody I am fighting another champion in TJ Doheny.”

“It’s champion against champion and it means everything to me. After this it is one step closer to the other belts,” he added before stressing, like Doheny, that the winner will be able to call himself the best super bantamweight on the planet.

“I believe the winner of this is the #1 in the division.”
