Cuts combine to push John Hutchinson to centre stage in Thailand

Donegal light middleweight John Hutchinson [9(2)-2(0)-2] continues his overseas odyssey tomorrow in Bangkok with a third fight of 2017.

The Phuket-based Buncrana boxer will compete in a third six rounder ahead of a move into big fights in the Summer, however some late changes to the nationally-televised card in the Thai capital have seen Hutchinson bumped up the bill.

A cut sustained to his mooted opponent, and a cut accidentally inflicted on the original headliner by Hutchinson, means that the Buncrana Banger will top the bill tomorrow afternoon.

It’s all part of the madcap Thai scene, where boxers fight near enough to every week, and switch constantly between Muay Thai and the Sweet Science.

Hutchinson explained to Irish-Boxing.com that “I was sparring the main event fighter for this camp, but only the other week I cut him in sparring to the eye – so now I’m moved up to the last fight on TV!”

“The lad I was meant to box only fought a few nights ago and got cut, so I’m only getting matched today with a different fighter.”

“I was at the weigh-in, but it looks like I’ll be weighing in tomorrow instead – this is how things work in Thailand!”

His opponent is still to be confirmed, but Hutchinson is expecting a capable foe considering the prominent TV slot.

The MTK-managed Ulsterman outlined how “I’m not sure on the opponent just yet, but I’m sure it will be a test.”

“I’m looking for a good fight. I’ll be ready for whoever I’m matched with.”

“Training’s gone well, I had plenty of class rounds and kept in the gym from camp to camp!”

“I’m not sure on the game plan for this fight, but I’ll box smart and stay switched on.”
