Craig McCarthy predicts ‘f#@king massive’ end to 2019

Craig McCarthy is expecting a massive end to the year.

The Waterford draw made it seven straight wins with a second successive victory in Cork eight days ago and told Irish-boxing.com big things are in the immediate pipeline.

‘Built2Last’ revealed he has three big fights in the pipeline and expects and exciting journey toward double figures.

The super middleweight couldn’t go into specifics, but there are talks of return to Waterford for the ticket seller.

However, it’s not just the venue that allows the 32-year-old to claim a ‘massive’ few months await the Deise fighter pointed out he expects three big fights and a big step up in opponent before we reach 2020.

“I have a lot of stuff lined up, but it’s stuff I can’t talk about. All I can say is it’s fucking massive and I am buzzing for it. It will be three fights before the end of the year, three big opponents and three big fights,” he told Irish-boxing.com.

McCarthy was talking after forcing Lajos Szilagyi to retire on his stool. The Hungarian did retire with a torn bicep, but had visited the canvas in the first round and was on his way out regardless according to ‘BTL’.

“In fairness to him I thought he was quitting but no he wanted to fight on with his bicep torn. Fair play to him. He was there for a fight. He was tough as fuck. He went down and got back up, but I knew he would be tough. I think the stoppage was coming. He wanted to fight, but it was always on my terms.”

The stoppage was McCarthy’s second career stoppage and his second in a row. The popular technician believes the knockout wins are a result of a deliberate attempt to add more pop to his skill set.

“I am finding the power now. The power was always in me but now you add timing to that and precision and you really see the effects. I am working on power a lot now. I have the skill I have proved that over the years, but now it’s about using that skill to get the best out of the power I have.

“I have the pedigree of 106 amateur fights behind me but this is a different ball game and you need more than just your skill. I have added a little bit more bang to the punches.”
