Cotto and Gomez bout confirmed

WBA Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto will step into the ring against Alfonso Gomez at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on April 12. Cotto’s WBA title will be on the line for the eagerly anticipated bout that will see Gomez return to the scene where he ended the career of Arturo Gatti last year. This will be the Cotto’s fourth defence of the title he claimed in December 2006 against Carlos Quintana. He has since dispatched Otkay Urkal, Zab Judah and Shane Mosley. As for his challenger? Gomez has produced some fine displays and finished 2007 by defeating Gatti and then the sturdy Ben Tackie. Gomez told his official MySpace page: “This will be a fight to remember because against all odds I will become Champion!”
