Cork boxer secures big TV fight this weekend with top English prospect

Even before his debut, Cork featherweight Colin O’Donovan [1(1)-0] was speaking of his desire to fight on big cards all over the world.

Now, less than two months on, the Youghal boxer will take on a top British prospect on a major TV card this coming Saturday

O’Donovan will face Doncaster super feather Reece Mould [6(2)-0] on the ‘Edge of Glory’ card at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, headlined by Josh Warrington v Dennis Ceylan, and shown live on BT Sport.

The fight will take place over six rounds and is set to be part of the live televised broadcast.

While the fight is being announced just two days beforehand, ‘Rebel Rouser’ O’Donovan has been aware of, and been in training for, the clash for over three weeks.

The Leesider, following a good amateur career during which he claimed an Intermediate title and compete at the Elite Seniors, debuted on the Celtic Clash 3 bill last month, stopping Trayan Slavev in the third round.

The fight at the weekend will be a step up for the 21 year old Yorkshire boxer as well, and he too will be boxing over six for the first time. Mould turned pro last year and has served his four-round apprenticeship, fighting many of the well-known journeymen on the British scene.

The English fighter twice competed at the Senior ABAs, reaching the semi finals once before being signed up by Steve Wood.

28 year old O’Donovan, managed by Leonard Gunning, remains scheduled to appear on Celtic Clash 4 in Dublin on December 2nd

The card at the weekend – which goes head-to-head with the Burnett-Zhakiyanov bill in Belfast – also features Tyrone Nurse v Jack Catterall, Leon Woodstock v Craig Poxton, JJ Metcalf v Damon Jones, Zelfa Barrett v Chris Conwell, along with appearances from Tommy Langford, Sam Maxwell, Darren Tetley, Jack Bateson, Jack Daniel,, and Jack Massey.
