Conrad Cummings is “made for me” claims Luke Keeler ahead of Belfast battle

Luke Keeler [13(5)-2(1)] likes Conrad Cummings’s style.

It’s not that the Ballyfermot middleweight is a fan of his April 21st opponent’s fashion sense, rather his fight approach.

Keeler believes the Coalisland fighter, who he faces in a mouthwatering all-Irish middleweight clash at the SSE Odyssey Arena in three month’s time, has a fighting style that plays into his hands – hands which he claims are now pain-free.

The Irish middleweight champion expects the Jamie Moore-trained fighter to be aggressive and come for him when they fight live on BT Sports and believes such a tactic will enable him to show his best.

Indeed the middleweight now trained by Pete Taylor suggests that Cummings [12(5)-1(0)-1] couldn’t be more of a perfect match at this stage of his career.

“He’s a quality fighter probably the best opponent I have faced so far, but at same time his come-forward style of fighting is made for me. I couldn’t pick a better stage and opponent at this stage of my career,” Keeler told Irish-Boxing.com before revealing how excited he was to be involved in such a fight.

“I am very excited. I have never been more excited for a fight and year ahead since I started my career. I am punching injury free after surgery and that combined with training full time and with Pete Taylor has given me new lease of life. I am training with a smile.”

Keeler is one fond of flashing a smile and generally appears upbeat before fights.

It seems that happy demeanour will continue ahead of his challenge for the WBO European title.

Although it doesn’t mean he won’t be trying to do damage during the fight, Keeler can’t foresee any verbal sparring in the build-up.

‘Cool Hand Luke’ is keeping is keeping a cool head ahead of one of three eagerly anticipated all-Irish clashes set for the Carl Frampton v Nonito Donaire BT-broadcast undercard and is taking the strictly business approach going into the 160lbs affair.

Just like his next opponent, the Ballyfermot pro is keen to stress that there is no animosity between the pair. In fact, he almost went as far as to thank his fellow MTK fighter for giving him the chance to secure a World ranking.

“There is no bad blood at all. He’s a nice guy chasing his dream same as myself. It’s just a business. There will be zero emotion involved on my part. I’ll focus fully on the fight and wish him all the best after it.”

“Honestly there is no animosity at all appreciate him putting his title on the line taking a gamble he prob didn’t need to take.”
