Conrad Cummings driven ahead of return after taking his “eye off the ball” for Keeler clash

Conrad Cummings [13(6)-2(0)-1] claims he took his eye off the ball ahead of his high profile clash with Luke Keeler.

The Coalisland middleweight was yesterday confirmed for the Carl Frampton Windsor Park card and is keen to make amends.

‘Mr. Dynamite’ was decisively outpointed by Ballyfermot’s Keeler in an eagerly anticipated clash on the undercard of Frampton’s win over fight legend Nonito Donaire at the SSE Odyssey Arena back in April.

The Jamie Moore-trained middle claims he didn’t afford himself the chance to perform at his best by taking his eye off the ball ahead of the 160lbs Irish derby and that is something he is keen to address moving forward.

The first time fight fans will get to see a more focused and driven Cummings will be in the Belfast football stadium on Saturday August 18th.

The 27-year-old takes on a yet to be confirmed opponent on the same undercard that Keeler defends the WBO European rankings belt that was once in his possession.

“I’m honoured to be a part of this as it’s one of the biggest if not the biggest fight night Irish boxing will have ever seen,” said Cummings.

“A lot of fighters would love to have the chance to be on this bill and I’m grateful to both MTK Global and Frank Warren.

“The whole night will be electric and Carl is finally getting to fulfil his dream. I took my eye off the ball last time but now I’m fully focused and driven to get back to it.”

The Tyrone fighter has expressed his desire for a rematch with Keeler although this would be one for down the line.

In terms of Windsor, Cummings responded with interest to two-time Irish title challenger Darren Cruise’s call-out last month and this could be an option – although an under-the-radar return bout seems more likely.

Cummings and Keeler are joined on the undercard by Tyson Fury, Paddy Barnes, Lewis Crocker, Marco McCullough, Steven Ward v Stevie Collins, and Brits Sam Maxwell and Willie Hutchinson.
