Connor Coyle to box for second belt in Florida headline fight

Conor Coyle [8(3)-0] will continue stepping up through the ranks this Autumn.

The Derry middleweight will fight over ten rounds for the first time on Saturday October 6th at the Coliseum in Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Coyle will headline the FireFist card, his second in succession, and will box for his second pro title.

‘The Kid’ will fight for the vacant American Boxing Federation Continental Americas title, facing Martez Jackson [4(2)-2(0)-2] for the minor belt.

From the state of Georgia, 35-year-old Jackson has spent much of his career boxing out of the away corner from where he has caused upsets against unbeaten prospects before – beating the unbeaten Ryan Adams and drawing with Botirsher Obidov and Moshea Aleem.

Most recently, last month, Jackson stopped Anthony Overby in the second round but this result was last week changed to a no-contest. Before this, in March, Jackson was outpointed by the 8-0 LeShawn Rodriguez in Madison Square Garden.

28-year-old Coyle is building momentum Stateside and won the NBA Inter-Continental title back in June, stopping Danny Pastrana in the sixth round of his first headline fight.

The Commonwealth bronze medallist splits his time between Derry and Florida, beginning camps in the Maiden City before ending them and fighting in the Sunshine State with esteemed coach Jim McLoughlin.

The ABF title bout in six weeks time is dependent on Jackson coming through a four-round bout in his hometown of Macon on September 1st.
