Connor Coyle claims big comeback win on Roy Jones Jr card

Connor Coyle returned from illness and scored a dominant win in his biggest fight to date last night.

The Derry middleweight has been out since last summer having contracted Lyme Arthritis but thankfully returned on a rather big stage.

Coyle headlined a Roy Jones Jr-promoted card at the St Petersburg Coliseum in Florida which was shown live via the UFC Fight Pass platform.

Facing wily Louisiana veteran Travis Scott, Coyle was on top throughout, dropping the American twice en-route to a wide eight-round points decision win [80-70 x2, 79-71].

Coyle improves to 9(3)-0 with the win and is hoping to be back in the ring as soon as April.

There was more Irish middleweight action last night, too, with Navan’s Chris Blaney getting back to winning ways in Walsall.

The Ginja Ninja has been out since last March with an eye issue but returned on a BCB card last night at the Walsall Town Hall.

Blaney was given a good run-out by familiar journeyman Raimonds Sniedze, winning 40-38 after four rounds to move to 11(3)-1(0).

Earlier, in Hungary, there were wins for Declan Geraghty [18(4)-3(2)], James Power [3(3)-0], and Robbie Burke [1(1)-0].
