Cockhill push Limerick close but last chance for amateur scalp gone

There will be no amateur League of Ireland scalp this year as Limerick beat Cockhill Celtic in the FAI Cup on Sunday.

The Ulster Senior League side put in one of the most competitive amateur versus pro displays, but like all those non league sides that went before them over a the weekend couldn’t cause a massive upset.

Limerick scored twice after the turn to ensure they progressed to the second round.

Celtic held the Premier Division side scoreless in the first half and looked competitive.

However, a brilliant Killian Brouder finish just three minutes after the turn put Limerick ahead.

The LOI outfit all but put the tie to bed with 15 minutes to go when Stephen Maguire finished off Karl O’Sullivan’s cut back.
