‘Clash of the Titans’ – FULL UNDERCARD DETAILS

The fight card for ‘Clash of the Titans’ was officially unveiled this afternoon in Dublin.

On Saturday March 30th at the National Stadium, boxing will return to the terrestrial airwaves, with TG4 broadcasting the Assassin Promotions and Boxing Ireland Promotions joint-venture.

Topped by an Irish title double header, with Eric Donovan and Stephen McAfee doing battle for the vacant featherweight belt and Victor Rabei and Jake Hanney meeting for the light welterweight equivalent, it is something of a domestic dream card and this extends down the bill.

17 fights in all have been announced for the bill – the two Irish title fights, a BUI Celtic title fight, four further all-Irish fights, an international contest, and TEN more Irish prospects.

It has been confirmed, in another Assassin v Boxing Ireland fight, that Kildare’s Allan Phelan [9(6)-3(1)-1] will face Crumlin’s Aiden Metcalfe [2(0)-0] for the BUI Celtic super featherweight title last held by McAfee.

Phelan will be returning for the time since October 2017 having seen a number of fights fall through in 2018 and is aiming to kickstart his career.

Metcalfe has fought in just two four rounders, and has been disappointed by his performances in these bouts, but was a top amateur and is backing himself here.

In a six-round light welterweight bout, also Assassin v Boxing Ireland, Blanchardstown’s Francy Luzoho [1(1)-0] will take on Crumlin’s Martin Quinn [2(1)-1(0)].

‘The Butcher Boy’ Luzoho had one of the most memorable Irish debuts of all time last year when he stopped Sam Jones and is continuing the big fights with a step-up in rounds and a domestic dust-up.

Quinn, who will be stepping up in weight, comes into the bout off the back of his dramatic clash with recent Irish title challenger Karl Kelly – a bout most felt he won. With the Kelly rematch being delayed, ‘Mighty’ Quinn will take a TV chance here.

A good match-up, Limerick light middleweight Graham McCormack [3(0)-0] will face Cork-based South African Jade Karam [9(4)-9(4)-2] in a Munster derby.

A fight which was previously made for the Ray Moylette Homecoming card in December before McCormack had to withdraw with a back injury, ‘The G-Train’ brings the greater skillset but has shown to be somewhat vulnerable in his fights and Karam has been proven to have a big right hand.

Ending a grudge that began on the unlicensed scene, Larne super featherweight Kelvin McDonald [1(0)-0] will take on Tallaght debutant Declan Kenna over four.

Teenager McDonald impressed in his own debut last November and has been the subject of constant call-outs from Kenna – whom he defeated in a debated semi-pro bout earlier last year.

Kenna subsequently signed pro and became a stablemate of ‘Boom Boom’ under Boxing Ireland Promotions and now goes straight in with his rival.

Also listed for the bill is a six-round light middleweight contest between Stillorgan’s Cillian Reardon [4(0)-0] and Sligo’s Jordan Latimer [2(0)-1(1)] – although this remains to be confirmed, with Latimer having announced his retirement on social media earlier this week.

Fresh from signing a promotional deal with Star Boxing, Waterford welter Dylan Moran [9(5)-0] will feature in a six-round international contest.

Hungarian Gyorgy Mizsei [25(15)-25(10)-1] – a former European Union lightweight champion who Irish fans may remember as the headline opponent for Noely Murphy on the ‘Champions Elect’ card at the National Stadium in October 2017.

This bout is dependent on Moran coming through his U.S. debut on a Matchroom-DAZN show at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino on Saturday March 9th.

In further undercard bouts, against to-be-confirmed opposition, there will be appearances for Inner-City welter Keane McMahon [5(2)-0], Waterford super middle Craig McCarthy [5(0)-0], Cavan light middle Owen Duffy [3(2)-0], Irish super bantamweight champion Carl McDonald [5(0)-2(0)], Limerick-Kerry super feather Siobhan O’Leary [1(1)-0], Swords heavyweight Paddy Nevin [2(0)-0], Kerry light heavyweight debutant Kevin Cronin, Cork super bantam debutant Thomas McCarthy, Cavan light middle debutant Dominic Donegan, and previously unannounced Clondalkin debutant Paul McDonnell.
