Chris Mullally vows to improve following debut scare

It wasn’t the easiest of introductions to the pro game for former underage amateur stand-out Chris Mullally.

Indeed after a tough four-round pro baptism, it transpired the Newbridge native needed a last round knockdown to secure a single point win over a game Przemysla Binienda, taking the fight 38:37 on the scorecard.

It was tighter than Mullally or his team would have hoped for, but immediately after the clash the technically proficient light heavy didn’t question the scoring. Instead he noted there are things to work on and was happy his power managed to pull a win out of the bag.

The European Schoolboys bronze medalist, one of eight debutants on the bill, told Irish-Boxing.com that “I thought I had him in the fourth, but he survived. I needed the knockdown to win it, but I can’t complain to be honest.”

“I didn’t perform to my best, I know that. I need a bit more training to work on things and improve on my fitness.”

“For now I am happy I got the win against a tough lad,” he continues.

Still out of breath from a high enough paced four rounds the Kildare man was still able to pinpoint the areas he feels he needs to work on.

“I could have been a bit more patient and maybe a bit more relaxed, but they say that is what these fights are for so I am happy enough.

“I knew he was tough and I seen at the weigh in he was a good size. I got four tough rounds in now I want to get as many fights and rounds as I can get so I can get to where I need to be. I need to work on that patience and have a look at fitness,” he added before discussing his power.

“I can feel the power increasing and I can see it in the gym and it helped me tonight. It’s all coming together a bit more time and a bit more fitness and I’ll be fine.”
