Chris Blaney wants a war against his toughest opponent yet

Chris Blaney‘s career will kick into gear on Saturday night.

The Navan middleweight takes on the gamest opponent of his career thus far – and will do so on a massive card in what will be his first scheduled six rounder.

Blaney [5(3)-0] will box notably tough journeyman Christian Hoskin Gomez [5(1)-20(2)-3] on the BT Sport ‘City of Champions’ bill at the Leicester Arena – and the Meath man is looking forward to a war.

Coming in exclusively as the away fighter, Gomez has upset numerous prospects over the past few years, including Dublin’s Ciaran Mullen – whom he held to a draw

It’s all a bit different to ‘The Ginger Ninja’s’ last fight.

That time it was a last-minute late replacement after numerous opponents dropped out, and Blaney scored an extremely easy knockout win over a 46 year old out-of-shape Adrian Parlogea on the Red Corner ‘Unfinished Business bill in Dublin.

Looking back, Blaney explained to Irish-Boxing.com how “the last fight was a bit of a joke alright but it’s no one’s fault. Red Corner did a great job in getting me someone so late – it was either that or no fight!”

“It was hard getting up for that fight as it was my best camp, but Ricky [Hatton, trainer] said before going into the fight ‘you still have to go in there and perform,’ and I did.

Against Gomez, Blaney promises that “this fight is going to be a lot different.”

“I won’t have to go looking for him, he’s a game opponent and loves a war so that’s what I want. I’ve watched a bit on YouTube he comes gives it a go, so it should be a great fight.”

There’s a real sense of coming together and progression for the Irishman, who moves into six-round contests in a big arena.

Blaney is looking forward to the occasion, and reasoned how “I’d like to think I’d prefer the longer rounds, it suits my style more.”

“We have always been working for six rounds in the gym, so it shouldn’t be to different from four rounds.”

“We know what to do to get the win. I’m delighted to be part of such a great card hopefully I impress and get more opportunities.”
