Chantelle Cameron links up with MTK Global – Targets Katie Taylor undisputed fight

English lightweight contender Chantelle Cameron [8(5)-0] has linked up with management outfit Mack The Knife Global as she looks to continue her chase of Ireland’s unified world champion Katie Taylor.

Cameron has signed an advisory deal with MTK following her acrimonious departure from Barry McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions last month.

The Northampton fighter cited alleged intimidation, humiliation, and the stress of chasing money from an outfit that had “no time for a female boxer” as her reasons for leaving.

Now with MTK, Cameron is keen to get active and continue pursuing her goal of a clash with IBF and WBA champion Taylor [12(5)-0] – who takes on WBO champ Rose Volante next month and has an undisputed fight with Delfine Persoon or Melissa St Vil lined up for June.

27-year-old Cameron said that “I’m so pleased to have joined MTK Global, who are doing great things for so many fighters across the world.”

“It was an easy decision to make and I’m really excited about the future now. I want to keep on pushing forward and for the fights I’m in to get bigger and bigger. I know my new team can deliver that.”

Addressing talk of a Taylor fight, Cameron admitted that “the end goal is to unify the division and that involves the fight so many people want to see – myself in with Katie Taylor. That would be huge for women’s boxing and I’d relish the chance.”

“I plan to be as active as possible in 2019 and I just can’t wait to get started now this deal is done.”

MTK Global President Bob Yalen added that “we are elated Chantelle has chosen to join the team and we welcome her knowing we can help her realise her dreams.”

“Female boxing is hitting new heights all the time and the lightweight division is arguably its most competitive. We are proud to be working with one of its leading lights and we know things are only going to get bigger and better from here.”

‘Wham Bam Chan’ Cameron, who was beaten previously by Taylor, has impressed as a pro thus far with a big-punching style that has seen her dispatch the likes of Vivian Obenauf and Natalie Aguirre.

Formerly trained by Shane McGuigan, Camron was recently seen working with former Irish, British, Commonwealth and European champion Jamie Moore at the VIP Gym in Manchester and is said to be trialling a number of new coaches.

Cameron will be the fifth former Cyclone fighter to link up with MTK following Irishmen Jamie Conlan, Marco McCullough, Carl Frampton, and Conrad Cummings.
