“Championship Fighter” Darragh Foley wants to get back to business

Darragh Foley [16(8)-3(0)-1] is so intent on not missing a dinner reservation tomorrow that he will go all out for a knockout as he returns to ‘business mode’.

Having lost in an IBF ranking title fight with Akeem Ennis-Brown in December, ‘Super’ set about having ‘fun’ in a showboating-filled comeback win over Wellem Reyk early last month.

Now with a win back on his record, the Sydney-based Dub claims he is back in serious mode and aims to take a step back towards title fights and a world ranking when he fights Rusmin Kie Raha [15(3)-16(9)-3].

Indeed, so serious is Foley that he is intent on getting a knockout win against the Indonesian in Bondi Junction this weekend to allow for a 10:00pm dinner reservation – or 11:00am brunch back here.

The ever-colourful Blanch light welter explained how “the last fight was just about having fun in there again with the pressure off. No bells and whistles – no BS; just pure fighting.”

“I didn’t even have my name on my shorts. I just went out and bought a pair of plain black ones.”

There’ll be no coasting to a points win tomorrow as he boxes Raha over eight rounds – a distance he doesn’t believe the Asian will see.

“This fight, there’s no mucking about,” promised Foley.

“I’m strictly business. I’ve a table for dinner booked at 10pm and I don’t intend on being late.”

The fight is the 30-year-old southpaw’s second in just over a month.

Foley welcomes the activity and believes it will help him return him title action in the very near future.

Domestics with the likes of Tyrone McKenna, Anto Upton, and Phil Sutcliffe Jr have all been mooted while Foley himself is keen on Ohara Davies as well as a rematch with Brown.

“I yearn to be in those big fights again. I’m a championship fighter,” he noted.

“In my 20 fights to date, 12 have been main event title fights so that’s what I’m accustomed to.

“These two quick-fire back-to-back fights were exactly what the doctor ordered after the disappointment at the end of last year but now ‘the get back’ is in full swing,” he adds before discussing his opponent.

“This kid is an aggressive fighter who comes to fight and has a 50-50 record but his losses have been in high company. He beat my last opponent so should give me better work.”
