Casey on McCullough challenge

13 June 2010 – By Jonny Stapleton

Prizefighter winner Willie Casey says if Wayne McCullough wants a fight all he has to do is get in touch with his management team.

The Limerick native hit back at claims made by McCullough himself that he disrespected the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Silver medallist, but accepted the former World champion’s invitation to a bout.

Indeed Casey revealed the Belfast super-bantamweight is still his boxing idol. He also predicted any fight between the pair would equally tough for both boxers and one the fans would rejoice in.

Firstly I want to say I would never disrespect Wayne or any other fighter. I still class Wayne McCullough as an Idol and I still look up to him,” he said.

“I know he is in shape and anyone who trains like Wayne and has his talent can still do well in this game.

If Wayne really wants to fight me and is serious I am more than willing. I do think he would be hard to beat, as will I, but its a fight the fans would really love. I dont want to get into smart comments that isnt my style and I really respect Wayne. However if he wants to fight me he knows who to contact.
