Carroll ready to show more than a bit of leg to impress Cork crowd

Ireland’s newest super bantamweight is ready to spread the Sam Carroll [1-0] gospel outside of Wexford and Dublin.

The former Bray BC and Rathnew amateur was last week confirmed on the Leeside Revolution card and will fight in Cork on July 20th.

The Pete Taylor-trained fighter is excited by the prospect of travelling to the Rebel county and showing a new set of fans what he is about.

“I feel good about going to cork. It’s pro boxing I have to go to these places to make a name for myself,” Carroll told Irish-Boxing.com.

The eager to move fast 21-year-old is hoping to win titles early doors, but will most likely face a journeyman on the first pro show to hit Cork in a decade.

However, if something more challenging arises he is more than ready to make an early step up.

“To be honest it doesn’t matter who they put in front of me. I am getting the best sparring possible with the likes of Davey Oliver Joyce and everyone else and I believe if I keep putting the work in I believe nobody can beat me.”

Carroll made his debut at short notice on the ‘Clash of the Titans’ card. Such was the hype surrounding the TV element of that card and the all-Irish clashes that his paid bowed slipped under the radar somewhat, but anyone that seen the Wicklow man in action talked in glowing terms post the four round down the card bout.

With a lead-,in to his second pro bout there will be more time for the Bray super bantam to generate interest to the extent he can grab some spotlight. Yet, while he admits having a date in the distance to focus on may help to some degree in camp. he doesn’t feel it will have a major baring on his performance.

The Boxing Ireland fighter is adamant he is always fit and ready to fight.

“The debut was short notice, but I had been in camp for a few weeks as the lads in the gym all had fights coming up. I always keep myself in top form and ready in case I get a call. I don’t do anything but train so I am always fit and ready,” he adds before stressing there are some benefits to a full camp.

I am delighted to get a date in general. I was hoping to get one before hand, but this one popped up. It’s great to have a full camp to prepare myself and I can practice new things throughout this camp, but as I said I am always ready.”

Carroll also warns that those who were impressed during his four round win over Kamil Jaworek will be bigger fans come late July 20th. The fighter claims he just flashed some leg at the National Stadium in March and more exciting nights starting with the Neptune Stadium next month await.

“The debut went well and I think I performed well, but that was only a teaser of whats to come. There was no point in going for the knockout if I could beat your man on the jab,” he adds before stressing there is nothing specific he wants to work on ahead of his second fight, pointing out those trained by Taylor are always looking to improve.

“We always work on different things in the gym, ever session is different and that’s why I think Pete is one of the best in the business. We always address the basics to keep on top of them, but then move on to more difficult things and tasks.”
