“Little Noodle” Carl McDonald feeling stronger than ever ahead of BUI Celtic Title fight

Carl McDonald [3(0)-2(0)] admits that he will be a lot smaller than Colin O’Donovan on Saturday night.

Indeed, the upcoming vacant BUI Celtic super bantamweight title combatant admits that “I look like a little noodle, I have a baby’s body.”

However, the Jobstown puncher is feeling stronger than ever and is confident that he can outbox and outfight the Cork warrior at Good Counsel GAA Club in Drimnagh this weekend.

Just over three months ago O’Donovan [1(1)-2(1)-1] was fighting for the super featherweight equivalent of the same belt, losing an extremely tight clash with Stephen McAfee.

With this in many, many people have the eccentric Youghal boxer as the favourite but reports are emerging from Team McDonald that their man is coming on leaps and bounds.

McDonald himself can confirm, and told Irish-Boxing.com that “training’s been great.”

“I’ve got a strength and conditioning coach. There’s a big difference, everything about me is different, I’m training and doing rounds with ease.”

“I can feel it in my power, my punching, I feel a lot stronger, a lot faster, a lot fitter.”

“He’s going to be bigger than me but unless he has a hammer in his gloves, I’m good. Size isn’t everything, it doesn’t bother me.”

“I just feel great, in myself, in the gym, I’m really looking forward now to Saturday night, getting in there and doing the business.”

With a first pro title on the cards, McDonald is hitting new heights and cuts a focused figure.

The determined Tallaght 29-year-old described how “this is what we’re in the game for, to win titles. If you can’t get out of bed early in the morning to train for a title then you’re in the wrong game.”

“I had an extra four weeks to put an extra four weeks training in. And the longer I’ve been training the more confident I’ve been getting.”

While everything looks to be coming together for ‘The Cobra’, he doesn’t intend for this Saturday night to be the pinnacle of his pro career.

Indeed, McDonald wants to use the O’Donovan clash as a platform to snake into further title fights.

“Hopefully I can get a crack at the Irish title when I win this,” he outlined.

“This is only the start of my career, I’ll use this to push on to bigger and better things.”
