Carl Frampton issues withering response to Whyte-Chisora 2 announcement

Carl Frampton claims he is the one in a real fight come December 22nd.

The Irish featherweight challenges IBF champion Josh Warrington at the Manchester Arena but today saw his audience and earning potential take a severe hit with the announcement of a heavyweight grudge rematch between Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte in London on the same night.

The schedule clash is a first in that it pits two British pay-per-view cards against each other, with Whyte-Chisora 2 at the O2 Arena taking place on Sky Sports Box Office while Frampton’s title challenge occurs on BT Sport Box Office.

The frustrating timing has been mooted for almost two months now, with fans, media, and Frampton himself urging Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn not to run his show on the same night as the Warrington fight.

However, claiming no other available dates, the English promoter proceeded and, despite some doubts the fight would be made, an official announcement came this afternoon.

Frampton responded to the announcement on social media, tweeting a clip of him in training and sating “let the table throwing and other pantomime bullshit commence. I’ll keep preparing for a real fight.”

‘The Jackal’ referred to the infamous press conference ahead of the first Whyte-Chisora fight – which was the chief support to Anthony Joshua v Eric Molina – where Zimbabwean Chisora picked up and threw a table at Jamaican Whyte.

December 22nd won’t be the first time that British and Irish fans have been forced to choose between a Frampton fight and a Matchroom bill.

Earlier this year, the Belfast man’s clash with Filipino Nonito Donaire coincided with Amir Khan’s comeback fight in Liverpool versus Phil Lo Greco.

The first press conference for Khan’s fight featured family insults and water throwing – and Frampton would poke fun at this, noting the respect between him and Donaire.
