Carl Frampton warns he will butt back if Josh Warrington tries to use the head

Carl Frampton [26(15)-1(0)] feels Josh Warrington doesn’t always strictly adhere to the rules in the ring but ‘The Jackal’ is not worried.

The Belfast fighter challenges the IBF featherweight champion on Saturday December 22nd in Manchester, live on BT Sport Box Office, and admits that he will have to be wary of Warrington’s head.

Frampton claims the Leeds champion can be careless with his cranium and has warned Warrington that he will not react passively to any indiscretions.

Head clashes opened two cuts on Lee Selby when Warrington [27(6)-0] dethroned the Welshman at Elland Road back in May and these, and other instances, have been picked up on by Team Frampton.

“It’s something that we, as a team, have been paying close attention to,” revealed the 31-year-old.

“He’s a bit dirty with his head sometimes, he comes bulling forward but he’s a good fighter”

“He comes in and it almost looks accidental but he bulls in a lot with his head.”

“He’s clever with it and sometimes he gets away with it.”

When asked how he would respond to a headbutt on Decemeber 22nd, Frampton promised that “I’d give him one back, that simple, this is professional boxing.”

In a memorable moment during his dramatic IBF super bantamweight title defence versus the late Alejandro Gonzalez Jr in El Paso back in 2015, Frampton flung in an extremely low shot in response to numerous low blows from the Mexican.

The Tiger’s Bay boxer is more than able to handle himself when things get rough and this could be an important factor against Warrington whose tactic would seem to be to overwhelm Frampton.

In addition, the Irishman’s warning could also be filed under the category of mind games, alerting whoever the referee will be next month to the supposed tactic from Warrington and perhaps ensured stricter officiating,
