Carl Frampton preparing like a Premier League champion for Nonito Donaire clash

He may not be receiving tactical advice from Pep Guardiola, but Carl Frampton has been benefiting from the Man City set-up and receiving similar treatment to stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero ahead of his massive fight with Nonito Donaire this coming Saturday.

Since returning from two weeks of altitude training in Tenerife, ‘The Jackal’ has been brushing shoulders with some of the new Premier League champions as he undergoes frequent sessions at the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance.

Frampton, who’s footballing first loves are Crusaders and Northern Ireland – while also having a soft spot for Rangers and Chelsea – has been replicating the conditions of Tenerife and Mount Teide in Manchester where he is now based with trainer Jamie Moore at the VIP Gym in Astley.

Describing his preparations for the WBO interim featherweight title fight, Frampton wrote in his weekly column for the Sunday Life that “this is the most professional camp I’ve had throughout my career.”

“Every box has been ticked, I have been tested at the start of camp, during it and at the end.”

“There has been no guess work and linking up with the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance has been crucial. They were actually shocked with the improvement I made over the time of testing.”

Frampton has been criticised in the past, perhaps unfairly, regarding his stamina but the Tiger’s Bay 31-year-old promises he is in the shape of his life for the BT Sport-broadcast fight.

The two-weight world champion outlined how “I’m closer to the weight at this point than I have been in a long while and I feel stronger than ever.”

“The altitude training has given me the ability to recover faster, so overall I just feel like I couldn’t be more ready for Donaire.”

“The game plan is set and I’ve been flying in camp.”
