Carl Frampton got emotional watching Warrington fight back for the first time

Carl Frampton admits he got emotional when watching his world title fight with Josh Warrington back for the first time.

‘The Jackal’ took in the IBF world title points  defeat suffered in Manchester last December alongside coach Jamie Moore as part of the TKO Podcast the Belfast fighter presents for JOE and revealed watching the footage got to him.

Whilst he may have got frustrated watching back a performance he has no doubts he can improve on the former two weight world champion was ’emotional’ for reasons beyond what went on inside the ring.

For the first time the 32year-old got to see the fight from a similar out of the ring vantage point as his family and friends and admitted that seeing himself hurt made him empathize with those close to him that watched the fight live.

He felt particularly for his wife Christine, who in a previous TKO podcast Chris Eubank advised Frampton against bringing to fights, and pointed out it’s more than just himself that are ‘invested’ his career and indeed well being.

Speaking on social media about the experience one of Ireland’s greatest ever said,

“Watched the Warrington fight back today with @jamiemoore777 as part of #TKO. Tough to watch but I needed to do it. Loads of mistakes but all can be fixed. Watching it back today I realised how hard it was for my wife Christine to sit ringside and see me get hurt. I felt emotional watching her watch me. Boxing is so much more than two people having a fight. Friends, family and team are all invested. It’s both brutal & brilliant.”

During the podcast, which is out on all podcast platforms now and will be available on YouTube later today, Frampton’s trainer, Moore wasn’t willing to go into too much detail as what issues needed to be address in case a rematch becomes an option down the line.

“He (Josh Warrington) was persistent with his attacks, he threw his punches in bunches and it’s very very difficult to not engage in that way. There is stuff that we can do, I don’t want to give too many things away in case we end up fighting him again,” he says.
