Carl Frampton destroys rival following online criticism

Carl Frampton [24(14)-1(0)] claimed a comeback win last night in Belfast, but was made to work for his victory.

The Tigers Bay featherweight returned following his defeat to Leo Santa Cruz in January for a headline appearance at the SSE Odyssey Arena.

Frampton took on tough Mexican Horacio Garcia in a non-title ten-rounder, a fight which many felt would end in a dominant stoppage win for ‘The Jackal.’

In reality, Frampton was faced with an extremely game foe, with Garcia finishing very strong a pushing the home favourite more than what was expected.

Despite this, and a questionable ‘knockdown’ in the seventh, Frampton claimed a unanimous decision points win to clear the cobwebs.

Afterwards there were a few commentators critical of Frampton’s performance, and this morning one of the 30 year old’s rivals sought to goad the two-weight champion.

Former British, Commonwealth, and European super bantamweight champion Kid Galahad [23(14)-0] stated on Twitter that there was something wrong with Frampton’s performance and sarcastically offered the Irishman to join his gym.

Frampton hit back with a cutting putdown, alluding to Galahad’s controversial past.

Galahad was sentenced two-year ban for failing a drugs test, coming up positive for anabolic steroid Stanozolol in 2014. The Qatar-born fighter pleaded innocence and claimed the positive test was due to his brother putting steroids in his protein shake following an argument. The amount of the incriminating substance found in Galahad’s test was exceedingly low, and the Sheffield fighter had his ban cut by six months following an appeal.

Since returning, Galahad has moved up to feather racked up five straight wins, most recently in July against Mexican contender Jose Cayetano for the IBF Inter-Continental title and is now ranked #5 with the body.

The red belt is currently held by Welshman Lee Selby, who defends against Eduardo Ramirez next month before, should he win, a mandatory defence against Josh Warrington in Leeds around April.

With Frampton, ranked #3 with the IBF, looking to get back in the ring around the same time, an eliminator versus Galahad could work well ahead of, all going well, a big title fight at Windsor Park in late Summer 2018.
