Caoimhin Agyarko to face Scottish title challenger in Belfast
Belfast top prospect Caoimhin Agyarko [3(1)-0] has been handed an intriguing fight this weekend.
The middleweight 22-year-old boxes on the #MTKFightNight bill at the Ulster Hall on Friday June 21st and will face a former Scottish title challenger.
It has been confirmed that Agyarko will take on Paul Allison [6(1)-2(1)-1] over six rounds on the ESPN+ bill. The 30-year-old Stranrear fighter was once a prospect back around the turn of the decade.
In 2012 however he was stopped by Chris Eubank Jr before being outpointed by Gary McCallum in a vacant Scottish middleweight title fight. This loss was followed by a whopping six years of inactivity before he returned this April, beating another Irishman in Casey Blair to lead into this fight.
On paper, it looks to be a solid fight for the developing Agyarko and another good match for a card which features two rankings title fights with Steven Ward facing Liam Conroy and Darragh Foley going to war with Tyrone McKenna along with a crossroads clash for Paddy Gallagher versus Liam Wells, an intriguing step-up for Lewis Crocker versus Karim Aliliche, and outings for Taylor McGoldrick and Owen O’Neill.
Agyarko has been impressive since turning over last year, racking up six-round wins over rugged Slovak Ladislav Nemeth and game Iranian before, following a short delay due to niggles, a destruction of Martin Kabrhel in April.
All of those fights took place in London and the the Holy Trinity BC graduate will now return home.
Agyarko has suggested a long-term move down towards light middleweight but this Friday’s fight will take place at middleweight.
A fourth six-round win could also herald a move up in rounds for the iBox prospect who is promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Boxing.
