Caoimhin Agyarko aiming to exploit ambitious opponent in second pro fight

Yassin Hasani will allow Caoimhin Agyarko [1(0)-0] show fight fans what he is about at the Brentwood Centre on Satuday night, predicts the Belfast prospect himself.

The Frank Warren fighter looked good when registering a debut win over Ladislav Nemeth back in October, but believes the mentality his second pro opponent will bring to the ring will enable him to impress more.

Last time out, Agyarko injured both hands early and boxed to a controlled points win but things could be a bit more explosive tomorrow.

Hungarian-based Iranian Hassani comes into the contest undefeated having registered three pro wins from three pro fights and as a result Agyarko predicts he will be more adventurous and thus give the former Holy Family amateur more chances to land clean.

Granted the Belfast favourite is heavily favoured to win and Hassani’s opponents to date haven’t been of the highest calibre but, going by experience, the ‘journeyman mindset’ won’t have set in and the 21-year-old will hopefully look to engage, an approach Agyarko aims to exploit.

“I think he will suit me. He’s 3-0 with 3 KO’s so he’ll come to fight and open up more. That means I’ll be able to look for openings instead of fighting someone covering up trying to survive,” the talented youngster told Irish-Boxing.com.

Having had WSB experience and having been one of those ‘suited to the pros’ amateurs Agyarko was expected to make the transition to the pro game that bit quicker than most.

Debuting in a six rounder and returning to the ring soon afterwards, his team feel he has adapted but the fighter himself still thinks there are things he needs to improve on.

“I think what I took from the fight was just stuff I needed to work on or improve on. I need to start sitting down on my shots more and slowing down the tempo,” he added before expressing his delight at being kept busy.

“Yes definitely,” he responds when asked if he is happy to have another date so quick.

“My team want to keep me busy and I’m happy with that. I should be out in February or March after this fight.”

Agyarko has relocated to London from Belfast to start his pro journey and is currently training in the successful iBox gym alongside the like of British champion Johnny Garton and recent European title challenger Bradley Skeete.

The West Belfast man seems to be enjoying his new surroundings and his determined to learn from those around him.

Giving an insight into Al Smith’s Bromley set-up, Agyarko descibed how “the gym is booming at the moment.”

“You’ve got Brad who’s boxing for a title on Saturday, Johnny, the likes of l:errone Richards and Jake Pettit who are unreal talents and Johnny Coyle who’s a quality fighter.”

“I spar John and Brad and personally they are two of the best spars for me, Brad is so smart and I learn a lot of him and Johnny Garton Is someone who makes me work for every round.”

Tomorrow night’s card plays out live on BT Sport from 8:30pm.

Agyarko had been due to debut on the channel before some late chopping and changing.

A TV spot is possible this time round – especially following yesterday’s withdrawal of headliner Daniel Dubois – but the top prospect isn’t too fussed.

“I was meant to be but things changed last minute,” he recalled.

“This fight I’m not sure but with two people being taken off the bill it could be a possibility.”
