“Bring ’em on!” – Dylan McDonagh open to Buckley and Gomez clashes

“Bring ’em on!”

That was Dylan McDonagh’s [2(1)-0] response when potential step-up suitors were put his way at the Last Man Standing undercard press conference last week.

Recent sparring partner and the step-up keen Regan Buckley – as well as Michael Gomez Jr – were two names dropped on the Jobstown fighter’s lap last week.

Red Corner’s Jonathan Graham brought the Bray boxer, who defeated Jobstown’s Carl McDonald, and the Manchester fighter, who is the promoter’s cousin, up in a manner which suggests both options are being explored for the future.

McDonagh fights for just the third time as a pro at the National Stadium this weekend, but claims he isn’t one to shy away from a challenge and is more than willing to take on all comers including the aforementioned fighters.

“It’s always been my style. I will never turn down a fight. I always turn up in great condition. That’s just me. I want big fights so whoever they offer me I will take,” McDonagh explained to Irish-Boxing.com.

“I get on with Regan really well, but those are fights I would take and they would be great. Those are the types of fights you’d love. That has always been my attitude take whoever wants to fight and take each fight on its own merits.”

McDonagh goes into his next clash on the undercard of the TG4-broadcast bill on the back of an impressive win over Robert Kanalas.

The experienced journeyman took Prince Patal four rounds in his last outing and lasted until the second in a WBO European title fight with World champion Ryan Burnett.

That first round stoppage was another thing mentioned more than once at the top table and it’s something the Tallaght man takes confidence from.

“I do take confidence from that last fight. It’s sky high to honest. We seen him, we knew he was a 12-round fighter so the idea was to get in there and make everyone stand up and take notice. We did that by taking him out in a round, hopefully we do the same this time.”

The hungry bantamweight has yet to discover who will man the away corner when he returns this coming Saturday, but regardless he is excited to partake in the first terrestrial televised Irish bill in years.

“It’s a massive show and I can’t wait for it, it’s a great show to be on. I don’t know the details of TV yet, but it’s always good to be on a great card like this and I can’t wait to fight in front of a good crowd. ”
