Windsor Park clause “crucial” to Carl Frampton’s next promotional move

The message is clear, come to the table with a guaranteed fight before the year is out and a plan for a massive Windsor Park clash next Summer and you have Carl Frampton’s ear.

Since he split with Cyclone, ‘The Jackal’ has been talking with numerous interested promoters and has plainly revealed what it will take to get him to sign on the dotted line.

While he says the split with the McGuigan’s came so he could take more control and ensure big fights, the Belfast featherweight has two clear stipulations for the promoters currently batting eyelids in his direction.

The former two-weight World champion wants to get out before the year is out and wants to that Windsor Park fight night he has so often talked about.

Writing in his weekly column for the Sunday Life, Frampton firmly stated that “a crucial part of any deal will be the guarantee of a fight at Windsor Park.”

“There can’t be any deal with anyone if that’s not set in stone because this is my dream and has been for a long time.”

Of course, Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn recently pledged to provide Frampton with a massive Leo Santa Cruz fight and a Windsor Park should he rejoin the British promotional giant.

The Essex promoter has a penchant for stadium fights, having run events at Wembley Stadium, Bramall Lane, Goodison Park, and Craven Park in recent years – with another big night at the Principality Stadium to take place next month

30 year old Frampton has spoken at length of his desire to get out of the fight game in the near future, noting how he does not want to be boxing when he is 34.

In that sense, his next move promotionally could well be the final one of his career. Therefore both timing and finance are of the utmost importance.

Frampton, who has not fought since his WBA title rematch loss to Leo Santa Cruz in January, outlined how “it’s just going to come down to what is best for me and my family. There’s no time to waste at this stage of my career.”

“The big fights have to be delivered and obviously it’s important that I fight before the end of the year.”

“I expect to have a promoter tied up within the next two weeks.”
