Bray boxer turns professional – Debut date confirmed


The latest Irish boxer to turn pro has been confirmed.

It has been announced tonight that Bray’s Sam Carroll is to make the move and the 21-year-old already has a debut date set.

The Wicklow youngster has signed with Boxing Ireland Promotions and will make his pro bow over four rounds on the ‘Clash of the Titans’ bill at the National Stadium on Saturday March 30th.

Carroll boxed in the National Senior (Intermediate) Championships in November just gone for Rathnew BC having previously been a part of Bray BC.

A bantamweight (56kg) in the amateurs, Carroll is expected to fight around super bantamweight and featherweight in the pros.

While confirmed tonight, the move has been mooted the past few months with Carroll training under Pete Taylor alongside the likes of Luke Keeler, Gary Cully, Sean Turner, and Davey Oliver Joyce.

The Bray man will be one of five debutants on the bill at the end of the month alongside Milltown light heavyweight Kevin Cronin, Mayfield lightweight Thomas McCarthy, Clondalkin light heavyweight Paul McDonnell, and Kildare light welter Katelynn Phelan.

Other fighters that have turned pro in 2019 include Omagh feather Callum Bradley, Keady lightweight Sean Duffy, Glasnevin light heavy Robbie Burke, Carrick-on-Suir light middle Randal Barlow, and Waterford light heavy Rhys Moran.

The ‘Clash of the Titans’ bill features a whopping seven domestic duels – Eric Donovan v Stephen McAfee, Victor Rabei v Jake Hanney, Allan Phelan v Aiden Metcalfe, Francy Luzoho v Martin Quinn, Graham McCormack v Jade Karam, Cillian Readon v Jordan Latimer, and Kelvin McDonald v Declan Kenna

Also on the undercard are Poleglass lightweight James Tennyson, Killarney super feather Siobhan O’Leary, Kilmacthomas welterweight Dylan Moran, Swords heavyweight Paddy Nevin, Waterford super middleweight Craig McCarthy, Jobstown super bantamweight Carl McDonald, Smithfield welterweight Keane McMahon, and Shercock light middleweight Owen Duffy.
