Boston Opponent Confirmed for Spike O’Sullivan

Spike O’Sullivan [29(20)-3(2)] continues his climb back up through the ranks next month and the Cork fighter has had an opponent confirmed.

The Leesider is moving down to light middleweight and targeting WBO champion and Golden Boy promotional stablemate Jaime Munguia – or upcoming mandatory Dennis Hogan – and is set to fight at the House of Blues in Boston on Saturday March 16th.

It has been announced that O’Sullivan will take on American Khiary Gray [16(12)-4(1)] on the Murphys Boxing show.

The Mahon man was initially listed to face Brazilian veteran Gilberto Pereira dos Santos [14(10)-9(2)] but will face a tougher test against Gray.

A Massachusetts native, hailing from the Boston suburb of Worcester, 26-year-old Gray has won regional titles and perhaps is most notable for his narrow majority-decision loss to O’Sullivan’s Murphys stablemate Greg Vendetti in 2017.

The bout will also take place over ten rounds rather than the eight it was initially listed for.

O’Sullivan said that “Boston is a home away from home for me.”

“Murphys Boxing Saint Patrick’s Day events are not to be missed. The crowd is insane and I’m coming to give them what they wanna see… a fight!”

34-year-old O’Sullivan was stopped in the first-round of a middleweight world title final eliminator by David Lemieux – who has since moved up to super middle – back in September but returned to the ring in December with an eight-round points win over the game Gabor Gorbics in Mayo, live on TG4.

O’Sullivan-Gray will be the co-main event next month, with Mark DeLuca facing Jimmy Williams in the headliner. The bill also features Joe Farina, Travis Gambardella, Charles Foster, and an all-Irish welterweight clash between O’Sullivan’s Celtic Warriors team-mate John Joyce and his fellow Corkonian Noely Murphy.

The card in six-and-a-half weeks time will be streamed through the Murphys social channels.
