Booth: We will keep talented and hungry Burnett busy over coming months

Ireland’s rising bantamweight star, Ryan Burnett (7W-0L, 6KOs) put on an impressive performance in his first fight of 2015 in Sheffield, England on Friday evening.

The North Belfast fighter made short work of his experienced southpaw opponent Issac Owusu (23W-18 KOs -7L) from Ghana.

Burnett applied pressure and ring craft from the opening bell. At the start of the second round a confident Burnett forced Owusu to retreat into the corner of the ring and followed up by unleashing a barrage of punches to the body and head of his opponent before the referee stopped the fight at a time of 0.26 of the round.

Burnett commented after the fight ‘It is great to get another win under my belt; I am learning so much from Adam everyday in the gym in Monaco, I am in good hands.”

“My opponent was 29 and he has had plenty of experience in his career, so I am delighted to get the TKO win.”

The former Olympic Youth Games 2010 gold medallist will next lace up his gloves for action in York Hall, London on March 27 and could possibly make his United States debut in New York in April.

Adam Booth commented “Ryan is making steady progress, he has a lot of talent and is hungry for success. I am planning a few fights at the moment to develop Ryan and keep him busy over the next few months.”

“He is an extremely energetic fighter and it is a pleasure to nurture his talent to improve his boxing skills and progress his career.”
