Boom Boom McDonald grateful for Bazza lessons ahead of second pro outing

Kelvin McDonald is ready to show some tricks of the pro trade as he returns to the ring for the second time this weekend.

Larne’s latest boxer of note punched for pay for the first time on the ‘Back in Belfast’ card last November.

‘Boom Boom’ was handed a tough enough assignment against the always game and very experienced Alex Bazza.

It was a bit of a baptism of fire for the teenager as despite coming out a well deserved winner he was asked questions by the tough Belfast fighter.

Upon reflection and speaking ahead of his second paid clash on Celtic Clash 8 this weekend McDonald claims he was handed the perfect start. The young Boxing Ireland prospect claims he learnt a lot from his opening career fight.

“Looking back on the first one I think I took a tough fight. Alex Bazza came to fight. He certainly came to fight and I took a lot from that.

“It was good to get in there with a person with over 40 fights and has fought so many good fighters. I can take from his experience and learn from it.

“He showed me the tricks of the pros. Some of the craft, the sneaky shots and some of the work inside you take note of and learn from. I will be more aware of them now in this fight and maybe I can use some of them.”

Bazza does represent a brave start for any pro, indeed he is the opponent for the far more experienced Ciaran McVarnock this weekend.

Whilst McDonald would have always been expected to beat the Alio Wilton trained away regular choosing him as a debut foe does show he is brave at the very least.

That lack of fear was reflected further when he agreed to partake in an All Irish clash in just his second pro bout. Unfortunately his proposed bout with Declan ‘Dollar’ Kenna feel through, but the teen puncher is adamant he his ready to be moved quickly if needs be.

“Look I have no problem taking a test. I think I have shown that and whatever is out there and they offer I am willing to take. I am feeling good. I am sharp I am ready to get in there and do the job this weekend.  After that I want to fight three more times this year. I want to stay busy and keep in the gym. I am happy enough with the win this weekend.”
