Bob Arum reveals details of Carl Frampton’s comeback fight

Carl Frampton [26(15)-2(0)] will make his return to the ring in August, Bob Arum has confirmed.

The Belfast featherweight has linked up with Top Rank and his American co-promoter will host a return to the ring on the U.S. East Coast at the end of summer.

Speaking at the press conference to announce Mick Conlan’s big Féile fight with Vladimir Nikitin, Arum also revealed details on Frampton’s return.

‘The Jackal’ will box in Boston either on August 10th or August 24th.

Saturday August 10th is the preference – with the initial preferred August 3rd date, separate to Conlan’s card in Belfast, falling through.

Arum described how Frampton “is going to fight, I think, in Boston.”

“He was supposed to fight August 3rd but now we’re looking for an arena on either the 10th of August or the 24th.”

“We have another fight on the 17th so it will be on the 10th, hopefully, or, at the very worst, on the 24th.”

The fight will be Frampton’s fourth in America and first since his WBA featherweight title loss to still-champion Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas back in January 2017.

Boston, like New York where Frampton initially dethroned Santa Cruz, is a city with a large population of Irish and Irish-Americans.

In terms of opposition, there is an opponent in sight, but Arum would not be drawn, noting how “the matchmakers have someone but I will leave it to them until they get a signed contract.”

The fight will be Frampton’s first since his December loss to IBF champion Josh Warrington.

Afterwards he had hinted at retirement but the 32-year-old has elected to box on and looks to be being built towards a clash with WBO champ and new Top Rank stablemate Óscar Valdez.
