Bob Arum planning monster Mick Conlan and Tyson Fury fight card

Mick Conlan [10(6)-0] has a tough fight to come through on Sunday night but, if he does, the Belfast featherweight is in line for another big appearance alongside a very big name.

The Top Rank prospect headlines his third St Patrick’s Day fight night at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, taking on Ruben Garcia Hernandez [24(10)-3(1)-2] over ten rounds.

Most of the talk regarding the ‘what’s next’ should Conlan beat the tough Mexican has been the suggestion of a big rematch with Russian Vladimir Nikitin as part of the Féile an Phobail in Belfast in August.

However, many have noted that the timeframe could dictate that Conlan has an interim outing, around May-time like he did in 2017 and 2018, and Top Rank boss Bob Arum has revealed he has a big plan in line with this.

The U.S. promotional giant recently acquired former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury [27(19)-0-1] and Arum wants to put the Manchester-born former Irish champ on a big card in America alongside Conlan.

While no venue was discussed, the pair, who are managerial stablemates, would look to be a good duo to top a card in one of the Irish centres on the U.S. East Coast such as New York or Boston.

Speaking to reporters during a Vasyl Lomachenko media workout, Arum outlined that “Tyson Fury is going to fight in either May or June, in the United States against a top contender.”

“We have offers out and we are waiting for a signed contract.”

On Conlan, the veteran promoter described how “Conlan is coming on, he will head up the card on March 17th from Madison Square Gardena.”

“Then, hopefully, when we get Tyson Fury in the ring, maybe Conlan, because they’re buddies, will fight on the co-feature.

First though, Conlan must focus on Hernandez this Sunday night on a bill which also features Paddy Barnes and Lee Reeves and brings the curtain down on a massive weekend for Irish boxing.
