Big puncher given big opponent on big Dublin show

Hot prospect Johnny Corcoran will give up almost two stone in weight when he makes his professional debut next month.

The 24 year old light heavy makes his pro bow on the Celtic Clash 2 bill at the National Stadium on May 27th, and will begin against an unbeaten, fully-fledged cruiserweight.

Corcoran will take on Polish puncher Mateusz Rybarski [1(0)-0] in his first pro fight. The Eastern European debuted himself last month, weighing in at 199.75lbs, and scored a points win in Hungary over in-house journeyman Attila Szladek.

It certainly seems as though Corcoran’s manager, and co-promoter of the card, Tony Davitt has chosen someone he believes will bring the heavy puncher rounds.

Over the past few months Corcoran, who may even move to super middle in the pros, has developed a reputation around gyms in Dublin for being an absolutely ferocious puncher.

The May 27th card, the largest in Irish boxing history, also features Eric Donovan, Jay Byrne, Mike Perez, Stephen Carroll, JJ McDonagh, Sean Creagh, Vladimir Belusjky, Rohan Date, Carl McDonald, Allan Phelan, Gerard Whitehouse, and Lynn Harvey, as well as debutants Liam Gaynor, John Joyce, Regan Buckley, Stephen McAfee, and Keane McMahon.

Tickets for Celtic Clash 2 are priced at €15 (Under 15s), €30, €40, €45, and €55 (Premium), and are available from the boxers involved.
