Big move for ‘Big Sexy’ – Sean Turner relocates and teams up with Team Fury

Sean Turner has moved to breath new life into his career by relocating to Bolton.

The Irish heavyweight has stagnated of late and hasn’t fought in over a year, but he is making moves in an attempt to finally make the most of his talent.

‘Big Sexy’ has teamed up with former Tyson Fury coach and current Hughie Fury trainer Peter Fury and will work under the respected coach at his Bolton base.

The former National Elite Champion and WSB operator will relocates to England to avoid the kind of distractions that it is suggested have hammered his progression in what is currently an extremely exciting and lucrative division.

It appears to be the last roll of the dice for the big punching big man and he may have just rolled a six. There have been plenty who have bemoaned the Shankill fighters lack of dedication and approach in recent years. Indeed, the fighter himself has been quite honest about how he lost focus on after two big 2018 pay-days.

With more money than he had ever seen in his pocket, fun had became more important than fighting. A bulging bank bank balance led to a party lifestyle and a bulging waist line for a fighter who has often spoken about commitment issues.

“Look I had too much money,” he told Irish-boxing.com earlier this year. “Way too much money in my pocket. I was partying, treating myself, enjoying myself.”

A lack of focus and discipline is something Fury is noted for not standing for and he will demand 100 percent from a fighter who some suggest could have a solid career if he applied himself and lived the life.

Fury, who worked with Con Sheehan before the Tipp heavy slipped into the wilderness, obviously has some faith in the Dubliner. He has used Turner as a sparring partner for both Tyson and Hughie in recent years. Indeed, he had the 5’11 heavy in to work with his son Hughie ahead of his most recent win over Samuel Peters.

Speaking on social media tonight Turner admitted the England element was key to the move as he is ‘easily led in Ireland’ and revealed he hopes to get three fights in before the year is out.

“I will be making a move to the Uk in the next few weeks to pursue with my boxing career. I will be trained by the heavyweight training king Peter Fury and will train alongside his son Hugie and Savannah Marshall.. I will get the world class sparring that I need and I will always be locked in training camp fully focusing on boxing and furthering my career. My manager has said this is the best move for me as people no I’m easily led in Ireland. I’d like to give a huge thanks to Pete Taylor for the last few years he was a huge part of my career and a best friend.. Also my team mates Gary Cully Luke Keeler Davey Oliver Joyce and the rest of the team good luck on the future and huge thanks to all the boys in the colosseum gym.. Fingers crossed I’ll fight 3 times by the end of the year .. I was down for a long time but never out.. BIGSEXYISBACK.”

The heavyweight registered one of the best away Irish wins in 2017 when he stopped world ranked Arnold Gjergjaj in Switzerland, but suffered back-to-back defeats as he took money fights at short notice in 2018.

The former Tony Davitt-trained fighter was working with Pete Taylor for that win, but it’s rumoured the Bray native had belief in Turner’s ability, but became frustrated with a lack of dedication and the effect it might have on a growing and extremely focused stable.

Fury certainly won’t settle for second best, but as ‘Big Sexy’ pointed out a move away from Dublin may be the key and it wouldn’t be too bold to claim he could be three wins away from securing a big fight considering the current heavyweight landscape.
